The Avaton Luxury Hotel & Villas is located in the area of Ouranoupoli in Chalkidiki in northern Greece and more specifically in Komitsa beach. It is a five-star hotel with more than 200 beds and it belongs in the Hotel group “Relais & Châteaux”
A new restaurant and a swimming pool building were designed in the existing 5* hotel complex, which also includes a secondary building with the use of a bar and a sitting lobby area. Due to the summer use of the hotel, a new building was designed with the criterion of being airy. On the upper side of the building, the new swimming pool was placed along with the cocktail bar area. A restaurant with a sea view was created directly below the pool, accessed via a new staircase.
Due to the building's contact with nature, friendly materials such as solid wood and pumice stone were chosen. The building has the ability to open a large part of the roof with mobile shades and at the same time to open the perimeter glazing, giving the feeling of an open-air restaurant.
The design was carried out with the aim of the restaurant being located low on the level of the beach and close to the sunbeds of the hotel in order to have direct access of the users to the restaurant. Light colored materials were chosen as the restaurant will serve breakfast and lunch.
The floor of the restaurant is slightly raised above the sand leaving a void below it giving the feeling that the building is flying. At the same time, the location of the building was chosen not to obstruct the view from the hotel room. Two large olive trees jut out at the edges of the restaurant, while movable timber panels are used for midday shading.
The implementation of the study is expected to start in the coming months, and its delivery is estimated within 2023.
