The beachwear retail shop of Mikri Santa is integrated within the broader seaside restaurant complex in Paros, in direct relation to the outdoor areas, pergolas, and circulation paths of the overall layout. It is located at a short distance from the beach, operating as an intermediate reception point at the main entrance from the seaside, before accessing the main dining area, thus organizing the transition from the landscape to the hospitality space.
It is incorporated into the architectural ensemble not as an independent unit, but as an organic part of the overall experience, while maintaining a clear autonomy as a point of pause and service.
Its position, at the boundary of the enclosure and in direct contact with the entrance flow, allows it to function simultaneously as both “part and threshold” of the composition. One side of the shop adjoins the wall of the restaurant’s pergola, forming a shared architectural surface that reinforces the continuity between the retail space and the outdoor zones of the Mikri Santa complex.
The design is based on a contemporary Cycladic aesthetic, with clean geometries and subtle formal gestures. Wood is the dominant element, used in both the primary structure and the spatial equipment and furnishings, combined with plastered surfaces in earthy tones and natural textures that enhance a sense of simplicity and understated luxury.
The interior layout is linear, defined by a clear circulation axis with functions developed perimetrically. At the center, the main service and display counter acts as a focal point, organizing the retail experience. Perimeter wooden shelving units and hanging systems are fully integrated into the architectural composition, forming a continuous display surface.
Particular emphasis is given to the treatment of vertical surfaces, where perforated wooden elements and textured walls create a subtle interplay of light and shadow, adding depth without disrupting the overall clarity of the space. The furniture is designed as an integral part of the architecture, featuring low constructions, wooden surfaces, and ceramic elements that enhance the handcrafted character. The products are presented within a cohesive color palette, harmonized with the space to create a unified identity.
The relationship between interior and exterior is a key design element, with smooth transitions and direct visual continuity toward the surrounding landscape. Externally, a soft seating area is formed using natural materials, functioning as an extension of the boutique within the overall complex.
Lighting is primarily based on natural light, highlighting materiality and textures, and is complemented by suspended fixtures made of natural materials, enhancing a warm and intimate atmosphere during the afternoon and evening hours.
Overall, the design creates a subtle and functional retail environment, where the experience is based on simplicity, naturality, and a contemporary interpretation of Cycladic architecture, fully integrated into the seaside complex and the visitor’s spatial journey.
